Two PhD positions available at CITEC, Bielefeld University
The Center of Excellence "Cognitive Interaction Technology" is looking to appoint two PhD students immediately.
The Center of Excellence "Cognitive Interaction Technology" (CITEC) at Bielefeld University, Germany conducts interdisciplinary research into understanding the functional processes of cognitive interaction with the goal of replicating them in technical systems, including developing relevant evaluation methodologies and toolkits.
Within CITEC, the overall goal of the newly established research group "Neuromorphic Circuits" is to identify the principles of neural computation and implement them in fully parallel and low power neuromorphic VLSI systems able to solve computational problems by learning from examples and experience.
In this context, we are inviting applications for two PhD positions (E13), available immediately, for the duration of 3 years.
One applicant should have a degree in Engineering, Physics or a related discipline, and previous experience in VLSI design.
The second candidate should have knowledge in Computer Science, Physics, Computational Neuroscience or a related discipline.
All candidates should have excellent command of English. Candidates will be affiliated with the CITEC graduate school, with a structured training program that offers support for scientific career advancement and professional orientation.
We welcome applications from severely handicapped people. We particularly welcome applications from women. Given equal suitability, qualifications and professional achievement women will be given preference, unless particular circumstances pertaining to a male applicant predominate.
Applicants should submit relevant documents (a cover letter indicating research interests, curriculum vitae including list of publications, and pdfs of two sample publications). In addition, they should arrange for two letters of recommendation to be emailed directly to Elisabetta Chicca.
For more information, please contact: Dr. Elisabetta Chicca (Email:chicca AT ini.phys.ethz.ch).
Applications will be considered until all positions have been filled. For full consideration please submit applications by 14.08.2011.
