The Acoustical Society of America (ASA) is pleased to announce two new education outreach activities.
First is the launch of Exploresound.org
, a website aimed at kids of all ages. It includes activities for students and research-based, student tested materials for teachers such as classroom materials, games, and career profiles of acousticians. Pages with information for teachers and parents, definitions of sound terms geared for basic, intermediate and advanced audiences, and links to additional resources are all part of this exciting new website. Materials are continually being added with the goal of representing all major areas of acoustics.
In addition to the website, a new four-part poster series - Make Waves - Discover Science -- has been created which explores acoustics, lasers, echolocation, and cross-polarization. Each poster is available for download and printing in English, Spanish, French, Russian, Turkish, and Mandarin along with supplemental pamphlets in English featuring definitions, activities, and career profiles. You can order a set of full-sized posters without charge by following the 'New Poster Series' link on the left hand of the front page to the online order form, or clicking here
The website and the poster series were developed through a partnership between the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and the Optical Society of America (OSA) Foundation with help from the ASA Website for Kids Committee, the ASA Posters for Kids Committee, and the OSA Membership & Education Services Council.
Please visit Exploresound.org
and encourage others to do the same, request a set of posters for your child's classroom, and let their teachers know about the site.
